Longdendale High Schools More Able cohort consists of the upper prior attainers identified in each year from their KS2 scaled score. The students are identified in year 7 and they remain in the More Able cohort throughout their time at Longdendale. The students in this cohort are provided with more challenging work differentiated in all subject areas. They are provided with aspirational targets to motivate and encourage optimum levels of effort.
Additional enrichment opportunities are provided and we have strong links with Ashton Sixth Form College and a range of universities. Our More Able learners are encouraged to be independent learners who strive for the highest grades possible and we expect them to embrace in a structured homework programme and carry out additional research with a wide range of reading and enrichment activities.
Throughout their time at Longdendale, they will have bespoke package of events such as university workshops, be invited to listen to guest speakers, have tailored careers events and be inspired to enter national competitions. Many of our more able cohort become our student leadership team.
Some more able students will be invited to join the Brilliant Club to create a research project with a university lecturer.
