Head of Department: Miss K Humphreys

Context

The MFL department consists of three specialist teachers who are passionate about language learning. The department has three dedicated language learning classrooms and the department all work together to foster a love of language learning and different cultures within each class.

Curriculum

Students at Longdendale High School will learn Spanish from Year 7. Students in all year groups study a variety of topics that help to develop their knowledge of the language, the phonics of the language and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries. From Year 7, students will start to study the basic grammar, phonics and vocabulary linked to each topic. This will then be built upon throughout Key Stage 3, which will help students to have a strong foundation to be successful at GCSE. Within the MFL curriculum, students develop the four key skills of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. When students reach their GCSE exam, these skills are assessed equally. We use the AQA exam board for our GCSE examinations.
