Preparing for Your Child’s Next Steps
As your child is now in Year 6, it’s time to start thinking about their transition to high school. This period can be both exciting and daunting for parents and students alike, and we’re here to help make this transition as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Important Dates to Remember
Application Period Opens: 1st September 2024
Application Deadline: 31st October 2024
Starting from 1st September 2024, parents can begin applying for their child’s place at high school by completing a form:
Tameside - www.tameside.gov.uk/admissions
Derbyshire - www.derbyshire.gov.uk/education/schools/school-places
When applying from Derbyshire, the school search function automatically defaults to Derbyshire schools. Consequently, you will need to click on ‘Advanced Search’ where you can search for Longdendale High School and change the Local Authority to Tameside – this allows you to select Longdendale High School as your preference.
If you need any help or support in making your application, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us and we’d be happy to help.
It’s crucial to submit your application before the deadline on 31st October 2024 to ensure your child is considered for their preferred schools.
Understanding that the application process can be overwhelming, we’ve created a comprehensive step-by-step guide video. This resource walks parents through each stage of the application, making it easier to navigate and complete the necessary steps.
What to Expect After Applying
Parents will be notified of their child’s allocated high school on 1st March 2025. If your child is placed at Longdendale High School, the school will reach out with more information about the transition programme designed to integrate new students smoothly into the school community.
Special Educational Needs (SEN)
For parents of children with special educational needs (SEN), the council collaborates with parents, schools, and support services to name a school in the child’s EHCP. Discussions regarding high school options for children with SEN will take place during the Year 5 Annual Review.
