World Book Day

1 March 2024

We are looking forward to celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7th March.

Several competitions have been launched in assemblies this week to celebrate the day and promote reading for pleasure.

There will be prizes including books, vouchers and chocolate awarded to the best entries and the top prize for the winner of each competition in each year group is a Golden Ticket entitling the holder and one friend to visit Cadbury World on a school trip later this year.

Students can enter as many different competitions as they like, but we would like all students to enter at least one!

If you’re an avid reader, then please share your experience with us and write a book review. Pick up an entry form from the library, or download one here, let us know a book you recommend and write a brief synopsis of why you chose that book.

If you prefer being more creative and being inspired by what you have read, enter our Wonka inspired writing competition! Read the extract from Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the entry sheet describing the ‘chocolate room’. Create your own character and write about their experience in the factory, perhaps trying a sweet treat of your own invention! The extract and and entry sheet can be collected from the library, or downloaded here.

On Thursday 7th March, teachers will be sharing their favourite books with you. There will be a scavenger hunt where students will need to match a blurb from a book to the book’s title and the right teacher. Forms will be given out in tutor time on Thursday. Entries with the most correct answers will be entered into the Cadbury World draw!

Our library are also hosting special events on Thursday, including a ‘Where’s Wally’ competition, book author bingo, challenges, quizzes and more! The hunt for Wally will start at break time. Winners will get a certificate and will be entered into a prize draw.

All students will also be given a voucher for a free book or £1 discount from a book of their choice.
