Coronation Commemorations

12 May 2023

This morning, Stamford Park Trust CEO, Anton McGrath, joined headteacher, Andrea Jones, and assistant headteacher, Jenny Willis, to plant an oak tree and bury a time capsule to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III. They were joined by students from Years 7-10 who were chosen for being the current top achievement point holders for their year group.

Anton McGrath held a small ceremony where the occasion was marked with a poem read by Sian in Year 9 before planting the tree and burying the capsule for students of the future to learn about this historic event. It will also provide future generations with an insight into life at Longdendale in 2023. The capsule contained the specially written poem, memories of the Queen, photographs of school life and mementos from our Coronation celebrations in school.

Students have also been busy this week deciding upon their pledges to volunteer in the community before the May half-term. Form tutors will verify that the activities have been completed and specially designed coronation badges, which have arrived today, will be awarded to students to commemorate their efforts and mark the occasion. Well done to all students for getting involved. Congratulations also to Sophie in 7S for winning the coronation quiz held last week.

Stamford Park Trust CEO said "At Stamford Park Trust, we wanted to do something a little different to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III. The planting of trees represents the new King's passion for nature and the natural world and will serve as a physical reminder of this time in our history. The time capsules, once opened, will provide a social history of those who studied and worked across our academies in the future."
